Ok, let's, just for the sake of argument, say that you are a tourist who likes to build. You find a place and you build something really terrific. You then call your friends to see the terrific thing you've done and you sign off for the night. The next afternoon you sign on to Active Worlds and discover that your really terrific build is completely gone and even worse it may be planked over by some citizen owner. To a Peacekeeper this is considered vandalism but unfortunately there's not anything Peacekeepers can do when a tourist build gets erased.

 

Total Loss

Absolutely anyone can delete a tourist build unhindered. Anything built on the tourist account is not protected in any of the public worlds. You may be able to lodge a complaint with the Peacekeepers if the person who erased the build also engages in harassment. However, as far as the build is concerned, it is a total loss. The reason is Active Worlds (and we are talking the management here) considers tourist building to be practice building. I am sure most tourists are aware that if you have a citizenship account everything you build is protected indefinitely. Moreover if you allow your account to go inactive your property still remains yours should you ever come back and reactivate your account.

 

Protecting Tourist Builds

There are several approaches to protecting a tourist build. There are worlds where the owners have bots protecting tourist building. It’s up to you to find those worlds and get permission from the owner to build there. This article is primarily focused on building in the public worlds. The first to build safely, and most obvious, is to get an account. The account cost $70 per year. It is possible to pay for your account on a monthly basis. One approach is to simply create an account for single month and build. Close the account and when you want to build again in a month or two pay another $6.95 and start building again. There is a third option if you are very frugal or your parents won't allow you to have an account. In a case like that, approach a Peacekeeper and asked them to use the AlphaMapper.

Then together locate somewhere in AlphaWorld with empty space and have the PK leave a seed object (a starter piece you can build off of). Save the teleport so you can find it again. Build to your heart’s content however be sure you do it underground so that your build will not be picked up when the Mapper database is occasionally refreshed. Finally and most important, never tell a living soul where your build is. If you do that you can build without an account but it's still not a guarantee that someone will find and remove it. As I said, the safest way to build is with an account.
