Tips and Tricks

Copy & Paste

Most ppl that have been in AW more than a few days have learned how much value "copy & paste" has. That long URL, that email address, etc :o) And wow... I don't know we Teachers and Gatekeepers would be without our copy/paste and macros.

There's a couple of tricks to building with copy/paste. One is if you want to copy an object with a long line in the action AND in the description, you can copy the first..... paste it to your chat line, then copy the second and teleport to the new location. Then of course simply paste into the new object..... copy your chat line and then paste that. Saves flitting backwards and forwards.

The other trick was given to me by a fellow teacher in AWSchool. A programme that is, in my opinion, as complimentary to AW as Robobuilder or any of the bots. Its called Super Note Tab Lite and is available freeware. For those complicated astop, adone, astarts, some of which can be more than any one feels like teleporting backwards and forwards from, while you copy paste each line.... try Notetab, it can be used as a paste board and sits in your system tray, and you are only a click a way from a multi document "filing system". (Also converts to HTML and ASCII)

I keep my urls, the commands I use often, and of course as a teacher, those helpful lines that can be needed a lot, all in Notetab.... and they can be used again and again, saves you running back to that picture every time u want to paste the url :o)

Copy / paste is also handy for interior decorating. Cant make up your mind what colour you want the walls? Build all in one basic texture then sit back and paste into six or more walls one create animate me code to give you an idea for the feel of the scheme. Doesn't suit? Just try another on the opposite side and compare.

Actually, Notetab saved my bacon once.... some smarty pants deleted AW from my 'puter, normally something that would have necessitated me collecting all my teleports again, IF I could find them. But because you can keep your teleport text open in Notetab ( and it was) it was saved and so was I :o)

Guess you all know an easy way of building teleports and warps? Do a remember at the exact spot you want the teleport to take you to, then open your teleport text and copy/paste the exact co-ords from the spot into the action line of the object after *activate teleport* That's why my teleport text stays open in Notetab, for even easier access to my teleports.... for building and for copy/paste sharing of the coords to my favourite places.

I also keep a home made list of AW objects in textured order..... saves me running around to building yards to find the name of that table that last month you remembered seeing, but don't know whether it has an 01 or a 0 or a 1 or what in the object name.

Have fun with it :o)
