The Big Build: A Hearty Thank You!

The 2011 National Building Museum Festival of the Building Arts "the Big Build" was a huge success. According to the Volunteer Director of the Museum more than 3000 people visited all the displays. All 250 business cards with directions on how to get Active Worlds were taken. Unfortunately, I do not have any pictures of the display because the Museum did not have Wi-Fi capability.

Fortunately, my brand-new smart phone was capable of creating a hotspot so all three of the laptops and projector were in operation. Several users of Second Life came over thinking they were looking at well, you know what. They were astounded to find that Active Worlds was still in business, the avatars look better than they do in Second Life, and that the entire demonstration on all three machines was running over a single cell phone.

One highlight was during the blimp tour especially when the aircraft got stuck between buildings and avatars had to jump ship only to run down the street to catch up with it after it was free. The Who Wants to Be a Millionaire game show drew a crowd most of whom did not know the answers to the questions. Many were very impressed with the quality of building in the worlds that we visited during the demonstration.

I personally want to thank everybody in world who got involved, set up their builds, worlds and donated their personal time to make this event a huge success!
