AWEC Update: Chapter 6

Chapter 5

Chapter 6.

Julia: Where is he... I have to stop him...
“RALF WHERE ARE YOU, SHOW YOURSELF”

Julia darts from tree to tree searching for Ralf.

Ralf: “WHY DID
YOU HAVE TO INTERFERE, WE WERE SO CLOSE TO UNDERSTANDING THAT FREAK”

Julia: Homing in on Ralf's voice.... “HE IS NOT A FREAK, HE IS SOMETHING SPECIAL, YOU ARE JUST TO STUPED TO REALIZE WHAT AND WHO HE IS... was...”

Ralf: “HE WASN'T HUMAN EVEN YOU KNOW THAT”

Ralf panting is all that can be heard as the sky begins to glow. The source coming from the violent scene that happened no more than 30 minuets ago.

Ground begins to rumble then subside...

Clutching her gun, fueled by hatred and anger, Julia rushes towards her prey...

crack

Ralf leaps from the nearby branch on top of Julia knocking the gun from her hand. The sound of Ralf and Julia falling to the ground seems almost surreal and detached with the impending presence approaching them both.

Julia and Ralf: “uhhhh”

Julia an Ralf exchange unsuccessful blows while tumbling on the floor.

Julia reaches for her gun just as Ralf kicks it away.

They both stumble to there feet facing each other both with there backs up against a tree.

Ralf panting: “Well... Now what... you can't kill me...”

Julia panting: “I WILL, I'll make sure you pay for what you did to Ben.”

Just then the rumbling shakes the earth so hard both parties are forced to take notice. As they look up in the sky they realize that the strange mist is almost upon them.

Suddenly the tree that Julia is holding on to bulges and heaves before disintegrating into dust as though the life had been sucked from every inch of the tree at the same time.

Julia and Ralf glance briefly at each other before forgetting their past fight, running as fast as they can away from the mist.

One by one the trees and ground heave and die as they run, Ralf trips and falls to the floor with the distinctive crack of a bone breaking.

Ralf: “AHHHhhhhh..........Help meeeee”

Julia pauses for a moment, torn between the wish for Ralf to die and the natural instinct to save any person.

It doesn't take long before her indecision is made for her as the mist finally reaches Ralf as he desperately tries to crawl away.

In an instant as Ralf lets out what is to be his final cry, a light shoots from the mist and pierces Ralf's leg. Ralf's span blackens and vanishes with his final shout eerily echoed as if one was shouting into a void.

Julia clenches her fist and begins to run again with all her might, speeding away from the new scene that plagues her mind.

The mist speeds up close behind, like a hunter toying with its prey. It doesn't take long before Julia can run no further. Reluctantly Julia stops dead facing the mist with her eyes closed tight, waiting as the mist rushes onto her.

............ All is silent, Julia hears her own heart beat thumping through the dead silence. It takes her a few minuets before she tries to open her eyes...

Julia: “Oh MY”

As the light reaches her eyes she realizes that instead of devouring her, the mist has formed a small bubble of air with her in the middle floating with no sky or ground in sight.

Still trying to come to terms with her situation the sound of foot steps approaching focuses her attention.

The steps sound just like those of a man walking on a hard wooden floor. “But where is the floor” Julia thinks “where am I...”

As the steps get closer Julia peers into the mist and slowly begins to make out a figure... no two figures one half the size of the other.

Julia: “wha.....who....*Gasp* BEN”

Ben's figure slowly fades into view, the gun shot wounds still visible on his chest with one hand holding the small delicate hand of a young girl.

Ben and girl talking in unison: “Hello Julia... Don't be afraid, we will not harm you.”

Julia: “But you're... I mean I saw you... who is she? Oh I have so many questions”

Ben and Girl: “We don't have long. The change is happening, I have a message for you to give to the the Order and the Purifiers.”

Julia: “Message, I mean what happened here... who... Purifiers? They are gone with Ralf now dead...”

Ben and Girl: “The Purifiers are not dead, where there is one like him there will be others... you will understand it all in due time but first you have to give them this message.”

Julia: “Ok Ben I trust you...”

Ben and Girl: “15 million years ago a race in a distant part of our galaxy developed thousands of giant science vessels which were designed to explorer the galaxy. Just over 10 million years later one of the vessels developed a fault with its interstellar drive, a device which reduces the specific mass of the vessel allowing it to accelerate nearly the speed of light. With the drive damaged, part of the ship began to tear its self off from the rest, so emergency breaking took place by flying through the center of our sun.”

Julia: “But at those speeds... how's this...”

Ben and Girl: “With the death of the crew certain, this extreme measure was taken and over 98% of the ship was destroyed inside the sun. Part of the vessel, the black
box for want of a better word, survived and using its last reserve of energy landed on this planet. Detecting life, contact was made, but at the time no intelligent responses were detected. The ship fragment, knowing its power source was limited decided to shut down to wait for a rescue ship to arrive but this would take 5 million years. The ship fragment therefore started altering life forms on the surface and injecting them with a genetic key that would drive the species to reactivate the ship just before the arrival of the rescue vessel.”

Julia: “Genetic key... YOU, you were the trigger.”

Ben and Girl: “Yes I was, unfortunately the key was rejected by many species and only a few hundred in every generation would have an active genetic key. This is
why I was driven to the rock, and why I had to die so that I could reform with the ship and awake the arrival.”

Julia: “They are almost here aren't they? But who is this girl?”

Ben and Girl: ”We are one now. She is the remaining AI of the ship fragment, taken on form that would be non-threatening to us. She is also responsible for building the space port that is taking form right now above us for the arrival of the rescue ship.”

Julia: “Oh Ben... I'm scared... I... I don't know what to say... how is any of this possible? Giant ships... aliens... it can't be true.”

Ben and the girl look at each other.

Ben and Girl: “I have to go now Julia, there is much to be done... tell them what I have told you. And let them know not to be afraid...”

Just then Ben and the girl start to fade leaving Julia with so many questions. As soon as they leave Julia feels her self being pulled away slowly like waking from a
dream... beams of light wrap around her and carry her off through the mist.
