AW Tech Support Tip Of The Month

What in the name of Cy does "Unable to initialize Internet functions (reason 12167)" mean?

Problem: When I start Active Worlds it says "Unable to initialize Internet functions (reason 12167)" What is causing this?

Solution: This error is coming from an Internet Explorer configuration problem. Usually a bad URL has been specified in the automatic configuration window.

  1. Locate the Automatic Configuration settings in your installation of Internet Explorer
    • Open Internet Explorer
    • Choose the VIEW tab
    • then choose the OPTIONS tab
    • then choose the ADVANCED tab
    • then choose the AUTOMATIC CONFIGURATION tab
  2. Next, delete any URLs that are specified there.

If you have tried this, and you're still having problems, please email support@activeworlds.com.
