In this new series, long-time Peacekeeper Lensman helps you make the most of public services available in the Active Worlds universe.
The first rule of building in public worlds is to completely cover the ground you intend to build on (for those new to building, that means building a large area of high-coverage objects, like a walk001.rwx or landa.rwx). Failing to cover your land can result in vandalism and property disputes. Vandalism occurs when objects created by others appear to be specifically placed to hamper or deface a build in progress. These objects may be signs of an insulting nature or picture objects with objectionable content.
The Peacekeeper rule of thumb is "first come first serve." The Peacekeepers strongly recommend that builders in AlphaWorld consult the AlphaMapper before selecting a build site. If you build in any of the other worlds it is a good idea to scout the area thoroughly to ensure you will not interfere with another project.
Tourist building is now possible in AlphaWorld. Tourist building is considered to be practice building and it does not protect the tourist builder from deletion at all. If you are a tourist builder the only protection for your build is to place it in a remote place and tell NO ONE (ever) where it is. The way to find such locations is to use the AlphaMapper. If you are still paranoid you can build underground where the mapper will not see it when an update occurs. A Peacekeeper or Gatekeeper can help you get started by seeding an object where you wish to build.
Frankly, the best protection for your builds in the public worlds is a citizenship. With a citizenship you get unrestricted building and even if your citizenship lapses you can restart it later without losing anything. Compared to Second Life, building in AlphaWorld is dirt cheap.
If someone deletes your tourist build the Peacekeepers cannot assist. However, if the deletion includes harassment on the part of another user you can file a report at: https://www.peacekeeper.net/contact.php (Please include a chat log).
