Happy Holidays!

Happy holidays to everyone who is celebrating the myriad holidays in this season: Channukah, Christmas, Yule, Kwanza, and if you're Roman, Saturnalia.

Getting the Yellow Gazette out this time has been a study in frustration due to fractured technology: email crashes, Internet slowdowns, graphics program crashes and server changes by AW and other ISPs as well. However, the staff has a few hairs left and we are pleased to present the final Yellow Gazette for 2013.

In preparing this issue, we noted that there are some links that AW promotes when you first log on. We tested all these, and found that the following two links are listed for archival purposes only, and have not been updated for some years: http://www.awportals.com/ and http://awcommunity.org/. The sites are active, but not updated, thus, some information on them may be inaccurate.

We offer a new page this issue: Around AW. This page will feature information about various events and projects being organised by AW citizens. In this issue, Kenny McC from the AWSchool has provided an in-depth interview on the school's objectives and programs. Lensman has kindly provided some details on the Peacekeepers.

The Build Tips page offers some tips on using zones. Joe's Page provides more delicious recipes: some traditional and some new. Fuzzy continues his esapades and is working hard with his new apprentice in bringing the news back to the YG. Nellie's Garden offers more plants and textures for your use, and finally, we repeat some details on how to move around AW in the Newbies page.

For this issue, the Academy of Magick page is not featuring as the writers have responsed to their ursine proclivities and have decided to hibernate. We hope to have them back for the next issue with some spectacular stuff. Other staff members are also going into hibernation, and as they are unpaid volunteers (as are we all!) they will be back with the spring thaw.

Letter from the Editor

Seasons greetings to one and all.

As another year approaches, the holiday season is upon us. We'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped make this year's issues possible. It has been an eventful and productive year in ActiveWorlds and at the Gazette. It's time for us to thank everyone who helped keep the whole show going. First off, to Chris the chief programmer of ActiveWorlds, whose continued work in upgrading and patching the very powerful ActiveWorlds programs. Without that commitment, AW would be seriously diminished. To Rick Noll, the CEO and the rest of the AW staff who have quietly and behind the scenes maintained the whole structure, the graphics, the websites, the forums and more recently the Facebook page. Not to mention the unprecedentedly bold move by ActiveWorlds to make citizenship free. Well done folks!

It's been wonderful to see so many new faces come into AW, as well as the return of many former citizens who have rejoined. It is truly great to greet old friends and new in this wondrous virtual environment we have all have enjoyed over the years and hope to for many, many more.

Thanks also has to go out to the many citizens who have contributed to the Yellow Gazette, and to keeping AW a creative and dynamic place to work and play. Without this community effort, nothing would be happening, and that would be a sore loss to all. So as one year closes, a new one approaches, keep building, keep dreaming, keep creating, and above all keep enjoying this unique place called ActiveWorlds.
