This next painting is called "The Night Cafe'".  This is where many of the townspeople came to get a meal or a drink in the evenings. Van Gogh exaggerated the colors to achieve a mood. This painting is more expressionistic than impressionistic

This painting shows a similar scene in a much different mood. The bottle on the table is likely absinthe which was a popular drink among artists during this time period. Absinthe is now illegal as it is very harmful. This may have contributed to the moods of some of the paintings and the reputations of some of the artists
