Things to Do in AW

Browsing around Active Worlds I have found that I’m not the only one trying to help people find things to do in Active Worlds. You have people like tunablues and dreamer2 who help the community through AWSchool. AWSchool will help you learn most anything about building in the Active Worlds’ community. There is Lensman’s Teleport Maze that will take you to over 400 different locations in Active Worlds and you can read about some of those locations in this newsletter.

Then there is Bach Zhaa’s blogs in the forums. He talks of AW Reunions (which seem to be THE events to be at since they are in person) as well as some of Active Worlds’ more wonderful builds. His stories are a great introduction on how to see the builds in a more interesting light. You can go through and explore those builds for yourself since he puts teleport links to the locations he visits.

Riff’s Big Tree House and Planetary Space Museum

Bach Zhaa’s tours of Active Worlds inspired me to want to take a tour of my own. I decided to go to AWTours world to get a tour. So I’m wandering through AWTours just amazed at the various choices of tours to go on and was thinking, “Where do I even start?” A tour given by one of the guides would be great but I tend to like exploring on my own. So I kept looking and found “Self-guided Tours” with links to various areas of Active Worlds. Then a sign that said “AW Amazing Tour #1” caught my eye and I thought, “What a great place to start.”

AWTours World Self-Guided Tours

I saw the sign that said “The Big Tree House” and clicked on it since I had never been to a tree house in Active Worlds before. Tree houses are always interesting to explore even in the real world. Now I will be the first to admit that I’m afraid of heights.  Going up is usually okay and I explored all around the top of the tree house. As I stood in the top of the tree house I looked around, making sure not to look down, and noticed the great view of the area. There was this big globe with stars that caught my attention and I started to climb down from the tree house, getting a little unnerved since I had to look down to watch my step. I headed in the direction of the globe and was rather excited about what I came across.

Riff's Big Tree House

I have a big interest in science fiction and space so to find out that the globe was a planetary space museum was really exciting. Riff really showed off his building skills by putting a splash down of one of the capsules outside and placing space videos throughout the inside of the museum. You could hear sound effects as if you were really walking through a museum with other people and interesting background music. There was the space shuttle and the history of the space shuttle and so much more. I really appreciated the build and what it had to show.

If you get the chance and just want a tour, AWTours is definitely one of the ways to do that. I gave a couple examples of the many areas that you can go tour through this world. The people who put this world together and who act as the guides could show you so much more and AWTours lets you know how to contact one of the tour guides to schedule a tour. Do you want to be amazed at what you find? Check it out for yourselves.
