Active Terraform - A New Service!

Courtesy of Jstone2004

In the summer of 2002, Active Worlds released a version of the browser that incorporated some incredibly revolutionary technology. In particular, it implemented an amazing new feature called Terrain. Of course, terrain had long before been created using Andras’ dem2rwx modeling program, which created a ground object simulating terrain. The obvious problem with that was that only modelers could create terrains, and the terrains were not easily editable. This new feature solved these problems, so users could enjoy the benefits of being able to edit terrain right in their own world! However, the power of the feature has not been truly explored until now. In May 2004, AWRPG released its second expansion, which showcased an incredible 9,400,000 square coords of terrain, and a beautiful full set of terrain textures (by Tortoise)! The effect stunned the many patrons of AWRPG.

The terrain was created on a scale that few in AW had yet even attempted. And it was created by the two founders of a new company called Active Terraform, a company dedicated to changing the way the AW community looks at the wonderful technology that Active Worlds Inc. has given us!

Active Terraform is headquartered in the world “JsPlace” where you can stop in and see one of their many terrains, as well as visit their office! You can also visit their website at http://terraform.jlife.net and see a gallery of their work!
