Takes More Than A Needle And Thread To Make A Cool Quilt

Courtesy of Haba

Editor's Note: When some of the team of Activeworlds.com, Inc. saw Quilt we were so impressed that we begged Haba to keep the world open for everyone to get a chance to sneak a peek! He's graciously been living with his hard drive whirling and grinding away in his bedroom while he tries to sleep so that you all can get the chance to see this really cool, cool, new world. (note: it really rocks in 3.0!)

Dear Activeworlds Community,

First of all I'd like to thank Mauz and Lara. Without them I or Quilt wouldn't exsist in AW.

I was very lucky to get Quilt a few months ago but it happened with such a short notice that I didn't really have any plans what to do with it. But building just another world wasn't an option. I've spent a lot of time in AW just by hopping around from world to world and usually they are just same kind of places with same set of objects. So I decided to do everything by myself since I already had some experience in making objects.

I thought about it for a few days and came up with an idea of little floating islands. That's about all of my idea back then and since then I've just built whatever has come to my mind. When 3.0 beta was released, I started doing things with the new features and not really care about 2.2 anymore - even though 3.0 killed one of my favourite features, a sky cube, in that world. Anyway, 3.0 is way better with other graphics.

Since my first set of objects, a lighthouse in Virtualy, I've been using Notepad as an object editor. Textures I do with Paint and Paint Shop Pro. Making objects this way, by hand, is the only way for me now and that is of course the reason for my objects being quite simple in a way. On the other hand, it gives me total control over the objects.

For the future, I've been planning to make some bots to do the dirty work of moving the toy train around. Also improving the car bot is on the list. Too bad I'm quite lazy doing code just by myself ;) Having SEQs in avatars would be nice too, but I haven't found a good free way to do them yet. Of course, some objects are always on their way too.

I'm doing all this just as a hobby, so the world development can be quite slow. Also, I've had one idea for a totally different kind of world, so who knows how long I keep developing the current "format". Anyway, right now I'm happy with Quilt and appreciate the attention it has got.

Sooo, that's about it...

- Haba
